The TPI (Teeth Per Inch) as applied to a bandsaw blade has to do with the thickness of the material to be cut and NOT the type of material i.e. metal, wood, paper etc. Our portabands are cobalt, bi-metal and are the highest quality blades available. They can cut metal, wood or any material with no problem. The only variable that you can control is TPI. Correct choice on the TPI can greatly increase your successful cutting applications.
IMPORTANT - IMPORTANT - IMPORTANT - IMPORTANT
How to Choose TPI (Teeth Per Inch) for Your PortaBand Application.
There must be at least 2 teeth (minimum) engaged in the work piece at all times. If at least 2 teeth are NOT engaged you will strip teeth.
It’s best to have 3 to 5 teeth engaged or even 6, but remember, the more teeth in the work piece the better chance that the gullets will fill with chips.
When that happens, you will get a dragging situation which promotes dulling, slows cutting action and risks breakage. Material that is 1/8" thick would require at least 16 TPI to keep at least 2 teeth in the material at all times.
For this application our standard 18 TPI would be perfect. The most popular choice is 18 TPI with the 14/18V a close second. Also note that the variable tooth configuration provides a smoother cut and a wider application.

Cutting tools are never guaranteed because performance and life are dependent on how they are used. Band Saw blade welds ARE warranted not to break at the weld. If the band is broken in the body of the band they are NOT guaranteed but if they break at the weld they will be replaced NO CHARGE. This warrantee is common because the weld is usually stronger than the band it self. Broken welds are extremely rare.
ABOUT RETURNS: The weld on a saw is always guaranteed. In the unlikely event that a weld should break, we will absolutely replace the item with a completely new blade. If you order in error and the tool is unused, you may return it for Paypal credit less the charge that I paid to get it to you, approx. .00 for a 3 pack, approx. .50 for a 5 pack, approx .75 for a 10 pack. We ship larger orders (20 and above) via UPS. It's expensive! Contact me (Rick) directly for returns. We want you to be happy but we don't want to take a beating for your mistake.
